    New Mobo/Windows 7 installation

    Hi all,

I need some advice about the registration/license key and installing a new mobo.

I bought Windows 7 Pro (retail) at the end of last year and installed it. Now my motherboard seems to be on it's last legs and I was looking to put a new motherboard bundle in my machine.

My question is: Does anyone know if I can replace a motherboard bundle without being asked or having to register or activate the license key again? I have heard that you only get to do this once and considering I forked out a lot of money for the OS, surely Microsoft need to take into account this type of scenario.

    Thanks

    Thanks

I thought it deactivated when it notices a significant change in hardware?

If it does allow up to 3 significant hardware changes then that's great, i've not come across this though on the net.

If you have a retail copy of Win7 which is not OEM, then you can move it to any hardware you want at any time you want. There is no limit.

However a change of mobos will require it to be reactivated on new hardware.

This should only require a robocall to MS which trades numbers that deactivate Win7 on old hardware signature and activate it on the new one.

Yep, like gregrocker said...a simple phone call and you'll be good to go, as long as it isn't an OEM copy.
