W7, Xp Pro

#1) can I upgrade to 64bit without reinstalling?
#2) I have a 1.5 TB Iomega hard-drive. It disconnects whenever I transfer files TO it and FROM it.
fresh install is best.

see software that may be installed already. eg:

A license for EMC's Retrospect Express software is included (software is available via download), allowing for easy file backup that keeps your data safe. Also included is free MozyHome Online Backup, which provides 2GB of online data storage.

i have the the best intentions ...cheers.

You have a do a booted clean install to change from 32 to 64 bit.

Check the folder/file permissions on Properties tab for files in your external.
