I never use IM and in XP I always disabled it. I would like to do the same in my new laptop running Windows 7 home premium but do not know how to do it in Windows 7. Can someone kindly advise?
Thanks
I just assumed Windows installed them by default. This is anew laptop and I think it had AOL trial installed on it but I quickly got rid of that.
What would I search for to see if IM is active because of some installation I am not aware of? I use Thunderbird for email.
Thanks.
With the info you gave me I discovered that HP had installed Windows Live essentials and that included Live Instant Messenger, so I removed it. Any other IMs I should search for?

I suppose you removed it via programs and features in control panel, so look there.
