    Strange start-up problem

    Hi,
    I hope somebody can help.
I did a fresh install of Win 7, 64 bits recently. Everything worked just fine. Than I used EasyMigration Utility to get my staff from XP, it also worked just fine, except one problem. After computer restart, all programs doesnot know anything about previouse session and complain about abnormal termination. If I start, kill and restart program without computer restart everything is just fine. There were never any crushes. I am sure about BIOS, hardware, drivers etc. because after restart I never had any problems. I am practically sure that Migration program created a lot of strange, duplicate directories, including system directories and modifired something in the registry so programs write shut up log and read after restart from different locations. So, the question: Where in the registry sitting default directories for shut down logs? Where in the registry location for programs to read on startup? What they should by by default? I suspect something in the Program Data, AppData, ApplicationsData or something like this, but I do not know. Please help.
    Thanks, Boris.

    Welcome Boris

If you use system restore from before the problem, you should be ok.

I wouldn't use the Migration tool - its easier to identify what programs can mess with 7 if you install them manually. As to startup programs, an easier option to disable them is Autoruns, just watch what you untick/fiddle with. You can break 7.

Thanks, but it has nothing to do with autorun, it is any program, they just can not fing shut down log and assume that there was a crush.

In the WEI window, look for a link to advanced tools, then open up the performance log - it will list your startup and shutdown times and any issues.

Then clean reinstall without all of the corruption imported using that tool.

    Clean Install Windows 7

If there was ever a time to clean install an OS, now is it with the best OS ever.

EasyTransfer and such tools import settings which is a known corruption path to be avoided if you want an uncompromised new OS.
