Why, what are you trying to achieve? Dual boot? If so with what other OS?

    Why???

You do understand that there is no direct upgrade path from XP, and that you will have to perform a clean install and reinstall all apps... right?

you can upgrade, however it is not worth it. the couple of articles i found clearly state while you will maintain your xp settings and files you will have to reinstall all of your programs. with this in mind i would recommend backing up everything you cannot afford to lose on c and do a clean install. you will have a much more stable system this way.

No DIRECT upgrade path! Yes you can use "tricks" or apps like EZ transfer.... but you still have to do a clean install.

as stated yes you can upgrade from xp, however it is not worth it. the clean install is the best route moving from xp or vista to 7.

Dude... show me where anything says you can perform a DIRECT upgrade from XP to Win7..... PLEASE!

You do understand the term DIRECT, right? It means putting in the Win7 DVD into a PC and then the current OS is upgraded to the new OS... without any other fiddling. So please show me where it says you can do that!

You cant Darryl...it is not possible to do an in-place upgrade from XP to Windows 7 ,, the best the OP can hope for is a dual boot configuration...
