Windows Easy Transfer question

Hi all,

A quote from the kb of Easy Transfer:
Quote:
You can use Windows Easy Transfer to transfer the following files and settings:
  • Files and folders
  • E-mail settings
  • Contacts and messages
  • Program settings
  • User accounts and settings
  • Internet settings and favorites
  • Music
  • Pictures and videos
Which settings does Easy Transfer exactly copy? Are all the settings you can find in the Control Panel among them?

Thanks
~Propa

Program settings. Settings that keep your programs configured as you had them on your old computer. Windows Easy Transfer doesn't transfer the programs themselves. Some programs might not work in this version of Windows, including security programs, antivirus programs, firewall programs (your new computer should already have a firewall running to help ensure safety during the transfer), and programs with software drivers.

Internet settings and favorites. Internet connection settings, favorites, and cookies.

Pictures and video. Pictures—which includes any visual format (for example, .jpg, .bmp, and .gif files)—and personal videos.

Music. Electronic music files, playlists, and album art.
Hope it answers your question. Good luck with migrating!

Thanks. Anyhow, I'm just reinstalling, so I'll only take the User Accounts and Settings option to save me from another customizing part.

Can an Easy Transfer archive be used/read without using Easy Transfer?
This sounds like a dumb question, but here's the background. My daughter's XP laptop crashed (trashed hard disk that I doubt we can rescue much data from) and so we got her a Windows 7 computer. Unless we can rescue much of the old data from crashed XP, she's pretty much starting off empty. ...
