Problem with that is that you start in square 1 every time you boot because nothing is being retained - no data, no setting, no download, no nothing.
If you want to play around with this kind of setup, use Fedora on a stick. I have one, it's fun - if you don't want to accomplish anything. And you need no key.

Speeds are near regular hdd speed with an external hdd (200 Mbps), although I am not sure about flash drives.

For the CD and Activation you must find that yourself as I will not go to Pirate Activities.

And I'm not sure what whs is trying to say, it works absolutely fine, it keeps settings (I know because I am using Chrome and it retains the skin, also the background and visual settings remain after reboot!)

The question is: How are you able to activate Win7 on an external HD when the hardware changes depending on which mobo it is plugged into?

No idea... It just happened to work for me. However, the process is fine, I've done it to about 3 or 4 computers already, it helps alot if your laptop causes your harddrive to crash every time you use it like mine >.<

How do I create a Win7 Boot Disc for a full system re-boot?

Anytime Upgrade from OEM version to full version??
I have Win 7 64 bit Home, OEM. If I do any anytime upgrade to Win 7 64 bit Pro, does that change the OEM to a full version? Reason I ask, I may want to change motherboards, to a different brand, and with an OEM I wouldn't be able to reactivate it.

Can you change a boot HD w/o Win7 OEM wanting a new version of the OS?
I know Windows7 OEM can be picky about what you can change out without having to purchase a new copy of the OS. I have a hard drive that I believe is failing on a little used partition. The past few days my boot times have gone from a too long 5 minutes to 30 minutes or more. When I try to...

Full Version vs Upgrade
I have read here over the past few months that just about every upgrade disc of Windows allows a clean version install from within an already running copy of Windows. Has anyone tried this yet with Windows 7? I've got the RTM version of Windows 7 installed currently obviously and would like to...

Upgrade or Full Version
The cost of the full version of Ultimate makes me want to throw up but I may not have a choice. I'm running Win 7 Ultimate RC. I do have Windows Vista Home Premium but haven't installed it since the first Win 7 beta came out. I do a lot of experimenting and frequently have to reinstall the OS. It's...
