Windows 7 Professional 64 bit to Windows 7 Ultimate

    Hi,

I'll try to clarify this as much as possible!

I recently bought a new Thinkpad T500, it came with Windows 7 Professional 64 bit, while I ordered the 32 bit version, I decided not to replace it because I have been convinced that there are many benefits to the 64 bit version.

As a student, I am entitled to purchaise Windows 7 Ultimate at a ridiculously low price, which I am intending to do. My question is wether I will be able to use the Windows Anytime Upgrade and simply jump up to Windows 7 Ultimate while keeping all my settings and programs as they are. That is the first question, the second question is, if I am able to upgrade in this manner, will the Windows 7 Ultimate have to be 64 bit as well? It seems that I can easily get hold of a 32 bit version however I'm having trouble getting the 64 bit version.

    Thanks in advance,
    Samuel

    Welcome!

The answer to both question is yes/ You can use anytime upgrade, and it will automatically upgrade to the 64-bit Ultimate.

    Hope this helps,

Awesome! I just noticed in the Windows Anytime Upgrade window that it specifically states that I must enter the Windows Anytime Upgrade Key and not the product key! Will I get that key as well?
    Thanks for the quick reply!

Let me be very honest with you. I am only going on my own experience. Anytime makes it sound like you need a special "Anytime key". The truth is, I tried entering just a regular upgrade key in Anytime, and it worked.

I have asked around this forum. The only response I got was one other user, who also succeeded.

So here's the bottom line: when you but Ultimate, it will come with a product key. Enter that into Anytime. If it works, great. If not, you will need to do a clean install, or in-place upgrade.
