change keys?

quick question - if someone currently as a pirated copy of 7 Ultimate x64 and dont pass windows WAT, can they keep the OS installed and pass WAT if they buy a proper registered ultimate x64 key?

Know what I mean? (sorry if Im vague, im just in a bit of a rush).

I'm trying to see if my co-worker needs to re-install the whole OS or just change keys and re-update everything.

Thanks all,

It should give you the option to make it legal by buying a key from MS, but depending on where you got the copy from, a reinstall might be best.

It depends on the particular cracktivation they have run.

If it is a boot loader, they need to use the uninstaller. Then they can try inserting the new key at Computer>Properties activation link.

If this fails, run a Repair Install which resets activation.

Finally, it may require wiping the HD for a clean reinstall to remove all remnants of the crack.

Any modding of the BIOS needs to be repaired by flashing the latest update version from maker's Downloads webpage.
