    "Discovered I can't upgrade between 7068 and 7077 (x64).

    I get an unexpected error 0xC0000005 "verify installation source are accessible and restart the installation." Well did this 3 times and gave up.

    Couldn't be dicked doing a fresh install so I'll wait. If my iso is corrupted I'm certainly not going to go through the trouble of downloading 3.04G again that's for sure .. lol! "

    Funny cause I just upgraded from 7067 to 7077 64bit perfectly well. No errors that you mentioned. I did disconnect all USB devices prior to doing so. Try that as in the past I was getting a failed upgrade install till I disconnected all USB hardware from PC.

    I also create image backups of my previous installs as a precaution.

    However I fully agree that one should always do a full clean install when moving up to a new build and if I discover any problems after this upgrade.

    Most of the time here if not a full clean install on a fresh primary the custom option sees everything simply rolled up into the Windows.old folder. As far as the Retail 7 not to be seen until next year that will likely replace or even reformat the drive when replacing not upgrading any beta or late RC stages.

    On each occasion everything if not using a backup file/settings method sees a fresh install. For games I've been able to simply copy game saves as well as auto saves into a clean install and still see those work.

    Device drivers, softwares, games still need to be installed all over. Once 7 is retail you would see that upgrade as you would expect to see with Vista presently. The best install to see however once out is a total drive or partition wipe to start off fresh with a clean install of the new version. No fuss! No worries!

    You were fortunate then compared to that usually being a problem unless upgrading from XP or Vista. For another 7 build the installer simply replaces the present install when using the custom option. For going between 32bit and 64bit back and forth then plan a reformat.

    I instinctively clean installed 7077, whereas I upgraded 7000 --> 7048 --> 7068....

    Oh, an I am about to perform a Vista SP1 --> 7077 (32bit) upgrade here in a matter of minutes....

    Let us know how that goes. Upgrading between builds generally means a wipe of custom install to replace seeing the Windows.old folder. You see that anyways with any clean install of 7. Upon a quick install of the now comfirmed Feb. fake 7106 you still see that when browing the partition set up for examination of any new leaks here.

    Meanwhile I'll have a few quick looks again at the latest whatever since that's already on the "be prepared for fakes" test partition here. The 64bit of whichever I notice always seem to conclude after restarts about one minute faster for some reason.
