Windows 7 (86-bit) on HP-mini Note

Hi, I was wandering if it is a good idea to install Windows 7 (86-bit) on a:

HP-2133 Mini-Note PC
2.0GB RAM

It came with Windows Vista SP1, but I installed Windows XP SP3 because Vista made the laptop almost burst in to flames.

But after a while I noticed that XP kinda fries the laptop as-well ( not that much though )

NOTE to people with less than 0 understanding of computer:
When the computer gets over cooked it works slower ( but in my case: slower than a snail )

Anyway: I've heard that Windows 7 needs less memory than Windows XP, so that is why I wanted to install it on to the laptop.... and if that doesn't work, my only option with this laptop is to install Linux -> Ubuntu.

btw: The laptop does not belong to me, so don't feel bad for me



oh, and one last question: is it a good idea to install Windows 7 Ultimate....?
if not: which version should I install? Don't worry I have them all in 64 and 86 bit.

You mean x86, which is 32-bit. If it came with Vista, it should be able to run 7, which requires less than Vista. It definitely does not require less than XP, which required 128MB at the bar minimum, but like I said it should run fine regardless.

oh?

With 2G of RAM, he'll want 32-bit as man people have had speed issues with 2GB on 64-bit, which is the bare minimum. I dint think he even has a 64-bit processor. 64-bit really should be used with at least 4GB of RAM anyways.
