Older computer moving to Windows 7, internet problems! I have been looking all over the web and can't find a solution. I know the problem but don't know how to solve it and I know many people have run into this problem but there isnt anything clear online as to how they get passed it or if they even can. I have an older computer, not extremely old but the drivers that came with the motherboard are for xp, so when I install the drivers, it still wont connect to the internet. In my device manager it recognizes all my parts but it has the yellow explanation point. Am I really going to have to get rid of windows 7 simply because of that driver not being compatible with windows 7? It's so close I cant stand it. | My System Specs |

Hi, know this will sound extremely obvious but have you tried just updating the driver? Make sure all the drivers on your system are from 2008 (ideally 2009) and later. If nothing else it's a good place to start.

It sounds like you need to update some of your drivers from the manufacturer's site.
I'd recommend first downloading Microsoft's program ( http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en ) that checks if your system is capable of running Windows 7 (almost all are) then seeing what updates are available from the motherboard or manufacturer (Dell, Gateway, etc.) site for your system.
P.S. - Some more info on your system would help folks here help you, like manufacturer, motherboard, etc. A good program for this is System Information for Windows ( http://www.gtopala.com/ ) | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Gateway, Toshiba Laptop, and Home Brew OS Windows 7 x64 HP, Windows 7 HP, Windows 7 Ult CPU Intel I3, Cerelon, Pentium 4 @ 3Ghz Motherboard Intel, Intel, Asus Memory 8G, 3G, 3G Graphics Card On-board Intel, On-board nVidia, nVIDIA card Sound Card on-board, on-board, SoundBlaster Monitor(s) Displays Hannspree HF237, Toshiba, SyncMaster 931B Screen Resolution default (all) Keyboard standard wired (all) Mouse standard wired (all) PSU 300w, unk, 650w Case black, black, grey Cooling air (all) Hard Drives 1T internal, 320G internal, 160G internal, 1T networked Internet Speed 6M down, 768K up Other Info Home LAN through Linksys hub to 4 port and wireless switch/router. Also, you might want to set up your network as a Workgroup rather than a Homegroup to ensure compatibility. And turn off IPv6 as well in your connection Properties. | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit CPU AMD Phenom II X4 3.0GHz Motherboard ASUS M5A97 Memory 8GB G-Skill Ripjaws DDR3 1333 Graphics Card PNY GeForce 460 GTX 1GB OC - Enthusiast Edition Sound Card VIA High Definition Audio Monitor(s) Displays Dell 19" Screen Resolution 1280x1024 Keyboard Microsoft Wireless Keyboard 2000 Mouse Microsoft Wireless Mouse 2000 PSU OCZ Fata1ty 700W Modular PSU Case ASUS Hard Drives 1TB - Primary
