Won't let me get past Start Up Repair

Hey guys, new here. I was hoping someone could help me out.

So I just finished installing Windows 7 on a Gateway 32-Bit Laptop. It was originally Windows Vista. As it starts up, It takes me to the System Recovery Options menu where I pick my OS. I choose Windows 7 and I am greeted with another window. I can choose to Startup Repair or System Restore, etc. I choose Startup Repair and after it is done, it says,

"If you have recently attached a device to this computer, such as a camera or portable music player, remove it and restart your computer. If you continue to see this messgae, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistence."

I have no devices attached and I can't seem to find a solution to this. I cannot get past this screen. Any advice?

    Thanks.

Couple questions. Did you do a clean install of Windows 7, or an upgrade?

Are you running two operating systems on the same hard drive?

Do you only have your video card, mouse, keyboard, and hard drive hooked up while trying to install?

Is the optical drive you installed the operating system with a SATA, or ATA drive?

Well, first I did an upgrade. And everything was going fine until i tried to boot up and I got that thing i mentioned earlier. So I did a custom install. Which didn't work. And I think I am running two OS's on one HDD. I installed windows 7 on the HDD where I had Vista installed. And I have a Laptop, so yeah all those things are integrated.
And how do you find out if it is a SATA or ATA?

If you are not sure whether you have two OS's on one HD, then you need to clean the HD and make a fresh slate for your clean install of Windows 7.

Back up your files and gather your program installers, as you will need to reinstall files and programs.

Boot Win7 DVD, select Custom install, use Drive tools to delete all partitions, create new one(s) as you wish, then format each before installing Win7 to first partition

After install, any drivers missing in Device Manager should arrive via Windows Updates, or can be found on the Support Downloads webpage for your model computer.

So basically, you want me to format the HDD and install W7 again? I don't believe I have any way to back up the programs. But I will reinstall them as I get it to work. I have two laptops just incase. For the partitioning part, what exactly do I do? Could you put it in steps for me? Sorry, kinda noob at names. Thanks for the replies btw. Oh i have two drives btw.
Partition 1 and Partition 2 i believe so. One is the recovery and one is the hard drive disk with like 230gb i believe. I used up 100gb already.

    *UPDATE*
So I did what you said, I deleted all my partitions and created a new one. Two partitions were made. One was the reserved memory or something and the other was the one with the rest. I installed windows on the partition 2 as the partition 1 did not have enough space. It had 100mb. Hopefully this works.

    Good work!

Now remember to check optional Windows Updates for the very latest drivers. If any are missing in Device Manager, check the Support Downloads webpage for your computer model. Check there for favorite apps, too.

Get Adobe reader and flash player, plus Java runtime and free Ofc Suite on their websites as needed.

Thanks, so i found some drivers on my manufacturers website, but most of them are windows vista. Which one should I download for Windows 7? Windows 7 wasn't even an option. I guess I don't need any drivers now?
