Win 7 Pro, IIS 7.5, ASP and MSE7.exe - HELP PLEASE??
Hi Guys
I have recently bought a new laptop with Windows 7 Professional pre installed.
I have a few Classic ASP web sites that I have built and maintain and so I need to be able to run these on IIS 7.5 and also be able to debug these with the Microsoft Script Editor (MSE7.exe)
I have been trying to set up IIS 7.5 (comes with 7 Pro) to do this but it is completely different in appearance from IIS 5.1 (installed on XP Pro) and I have not yet managed to get the set up right.
The main problem I am getting is that MES7.exe, the ‘Just in Time’ script debugger does not fire up when there is an error in the code and completely ignores ‘stop’ statements.
I have set ‘enable server side script debugging’ and ‘enable client side script debugging’ to true in the ASP tab in IIS and set the ‘send error messages to browser’ to true but still no joy.
MSE7 is installed as it comes with Office 2003 which I have installed and works fine on my XP machine. I can open the program but I can not find out how to make it automatically intercept error so that I can step through the code.
In XP Pro IIS 5.1 there is option for virtual directories called “Application Protection”. This must be set to Low to enable the debugger to fire up. It seems like the equivalent option in IIS 7.5 is not set correctly as the result I am getting from Windows 7 is exactly as if Application Security was set to Medium on my XP machine
Any help to resolve this issue would be hugely appreciated as my laptop was a big waste of money if I cant get this sorted. I have been tearing my hair out for days now

I may suggest you a way out :) but dont know how far it is acceptable . Why dont you use XP to run the desired programs ?
There are mainly two ways to run xp alongwith windows 7. #1 is through virtual machine, and #2 is as dual boot. Both the methods have their own ups and downs, but I am describing the both in brief :
#1 : for virtualisation, you need a software. The paid option is VMware Virtualization Software and the free option is VirtualBox. Install either, and then install xp in it. Now you will be able to use xp without shutting down win 7, and through the unity option enabled, you can use the programs installed in xp from win 7 desktop.
#2 For dual booting, just follow the method two of the Dual Boot Installation with Windows 7 and XP tutorial . Here you are to shut down win 7 to log on in xp
Choose according to your choice.

Hi Tom,
Actually I never used ssi ... I just tried to give you some useful links .... as you have ample experience, I think you will find your own way out of those

Not one person has come up with a solution,
I am beginning to think that this must be either an unanswered bug with Windows 7 &/OR IIS 7.5 or maybe Microsoft, in their quest to force everyone to use their newest and most expensive products have simply disabled this feature in Win 7 / IIS 7.5
Either way i am surprised no body has shed any light on this as there must be many other ASP developers who are having the same problem

Very sorry for you, Tom! I have told you earlier that I dont have any experience about ssi . I am feeling that you have tried your best, but pal, one earliest day it must be solved. I will request you to use it in xp till it is solved, in either way I told you earlier.
