Not buying Windows 7
i was wondering about putting windows 7 RC on my gateway 64 bit dx series computer, i am downloading the windows 7 64bit RC from microsoft as we speak so let me know if i should do this email me at REMOVED BY ADMIN
good to knew.. hey hmm do u have an idea bout which one should i choose 32 bit or 64 bit.. it rily confuse me ryt now im using the windows 7 evaluation copy 7068 and running 64bit... hmm if i switch to 7100 rc 32 bit should the performance of my desktop will be improve?

I am running the 32-bit version of RC1 build 7100. Its working very well with 1gig ram and my Dual Core AMD 64 bit processor 1.9 ghz.
I will most likely buy the 64-bit retail version of ultimate when it comes out. I am also about to upgrade my RAM to 4 gigs (maxed out) and then I'll be flying.
If you have a 64 bit processor you should use the 64-bit version of Win7. You'll have a better experience.
Hope that helps. Oh, and RC1 build 7100 is running great. Also max out your RAM, that really helps.
I heard that as well, and from what I can tell the focus for consumers is going to be on Starter, Home Premium, and Pro. I've wracked my brains trying to make sense of the large varieties of Windows editions available, but I haven't come up with anything satisfactory. I understand having a separate focus for business and home users, and I can understand a stripped-down version, but beyond that...confusion.
Not to mention the European "N" editions...

If I was in charge of releasing editions at MS here is what I would do:
1.) Scrap the starter or basic edition. There's no point. Many users will upgrade because they want the eye candy and I think its a waste for users to find out that they got the wrong version, and eneviatbly will be upset that they spent money on something they didn't want.
2) Release two versions of Win7:
- Windows 7 (thats it, not ultimate, no special name) this is for regular users, but has all the features of Ultimate without the title of "Ultimate". If you don't need a certain feature you just don't use it. Kinda like how some Mac users don't use all of the features of OS X, they just use what they need and its there if they do need it one day.
- Windows 7 Enterprise. This version is for companies, business, servers etc. it could have extra features for these companies, like things a server will need.
3) Change the price. MS needs to be more competitive with Mac. I use PC and MAC. I need to use both platforms because I work in the web industry and testing is important. Plus I like having the option to use multiple platforms cuzz I'm a nerd and enjoy both sides equally. Many of my die hard mac friends don't believe me when I say that Win7 is impressive. So if MS hopes to stay completive they should change the pricing to grab (and keep) users on the PC platform. I will have a hard time if MS releases Win7 Ultimate for $349 (full version) like they did with Vista. Thats a ridiculous price compared to $129 for OS X.
I really enjoy Win7, and I will upgrade. But MS needs a reality check. This economy, unemployment, its a hard sell to charge $349 for software. MS should bare that in mind.
C'mon MS keep it simple and affordable. What do you all think? On base, off base, let me know.

Win7 Beta will expire in August 2009, RC1 Build 7100 is good until March 2010, after March it will start shutting down every two hours. by June it will be completely disabled.
I've read that new computers at the end of the year may ship with Win7, and the retail versions will be on shelfs shortly after.
Hope that helps, what have other people heard?
