Confused about going from XP to 7.

Hello all, this is my first post. I have thoroughly confused myself about how I want to go from XP to 7 and need guidance.

I'm finally moving from XP to 7, a recent HDD sale (Finally got SATAs 500gb and 750gb) put me over the edge.

EDIT: Total party foul on my part. I bought OEM Windows 7 home premium 64. Also I'm good for 64, did the checker.

Here's my question. Can I pop in the 750 and move all my games (don't want to redownload all my Steam games again), pics, music and whatnot from my old drive and then pop in the 500, make a partition for 7, install it and then be good to go?

Will 7 be fin with reading the stuff off the other drive?

I was recommended doing the Easy Transfer thing, and I only have internal drives, could I use the 750 for that?

Also I was told in another forum to do a backup (something NT) and bring it back in 7. The post gave 2 links to the same thing and it didn't day how to make the backup, so I'm not sure if that road is viable.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, since I'm hoping to get going either tonight or tomorrow on it.

    Thanks.

That should work. All you have to do is right click on your top folders (games, music, etc.) in your other drive and "include in library". Then you have a path to the folders on the other disk. This is how that would look like (Example Documents)

Thank you whs, I appreciate the help. I have a question from you post though.

That's once I am in 7 right? Since I plan to just move them by right clicking and then selecting send to the new drive from XP.

    Thanks again.

I would use Copy to Folder. Works in XP too. And once you have checked that they all arrived safe and sound, you can still delete the originals.
Make a folder structure so that you have one top folder for Documents, Music, Games, etc. That's the easiest for later inclusion into the Win7 libraries.

Cool, thank you very much. In the process of formatting the move to drive now.
