    Restoring to factory settings?

I recently upgraded my vista home premium to a windows 7 ultimate but I don't like it. If i do a restore from factory settings, will I get my old settings with my vista back? I have a folder in a C drive "windows.old" which has all of the old settings/files/folders/drivers.

Perhaps we can help you work through any specific problems you have with Win7.

If not: How to restore a Windows 7-based computer to a previous Windows installation by using the Windows.old folder

When i turn my computer on, if i press the dedicated key for factory restore (f11), will that bring my back to my old vista without causing my computer any problems? I already have important files backed up.

You can try it, but sometimes the Vista Recovery partition is disabled when Win7 is installed.

If not, then try rolling back to Vista using windows.old steps given in tutorial.

Or find a clean-copy retail or OEM installer of your Vista version to get the cleanest possible install which will activate with the product key stickered to your computer.

What would happen if I try the restore and the vista recovery partition is disabled and doesn't work? Will it clean out my HDD and leave windows 7 and also delete my windows.old?

You will get vista back but not your data. When my windows 7 ( I upgraded from vista), was totally stuffed up , i restored to factory settings and my computer went back to vista (including reinstalling all the preloaded programs that came with my vista computer). Restoring to factory settings will wipe your hard drives meaning you will loose all your data. So make sure you back up everything!

Before installing win7, did you make recovery dvds in vista? Or did your computer come with a recovery dvd?

I never made the recovery disks and my computer came with vista pre-installed from best buy without a recovery dvd.

I recovered my computer back to vista using the windows.old folder. Is there anyway I can do a factory restore because everything I press f11 for system restore on startup, it doesn't work. How can I do a clean factory restore to my vista to get it how it was when I first bought it?

What is the problem with the restore done by rolling back the windows.old folder?

You should be able to make your Recovery disks now, or if the Recovery partition is still not functioning call your computer maker's tech support which is provided free for first year under warranty. I would not tell them you installed Win7 but just seek help for getting the Recovery working. They may send you the disks.
