Windows 7 installation with Upgrade program

My hard drive crashed. After installing the hard drive, the reinstalled my Windows 7 Upgrade disk I had purchased to upgrade my computer from Windows Vista to Windows 7. It seems to run okay. What files am I missing since it was only an Upgrade disk? Can I get them from Windows update?

You should have all of them. Did you do a 'clean' install or upgrade installation?

    Hi Bev,
Don't worry about missing files from a windows point of view - the upgrade and full installs are the same - what you may be missing are any specialist drivers or software for you particular system - special keyboard functions for example.

For this type of thing you are best visiting the website of your computer manufacturer, and checking what is available either win7 native or Vista as these will normally work.

You should have a complete system. But there are additional programs in Windows Live.

+1. And if you fill in your System Specs you'll get better assistance.

Be sure to also check optional Windows Updates for any newer drivers than the installer provides.

Thank you everyone. Have checked purchased a program that checked the computer for missing or updated drivers, and used the manufactors when available. That worked well. Since my compouter came with Vista the manufacturer did not support Windows 7 drivers. However, some of the drivers are still useable on Windows 7, so I did utilize those. I feel a lot better about my computer status.

You should use the drivers that the Win7 installer and Windows Updates provides.

I would only change the drivers from those if there are performance issues requiring a change.

    Need help

I purchased an HP laptop from Walmart with Vista on it and it came with a free upgrade to Windows7. I received the product key and have tried to install it and it seems to install fine. The problem is when I go in and try to click onto a word document etc, a screen appears asking for the product key. When I enter the only product key I have, it tells me it's not a valid product key. Please Help...I am extremely frustrated with this.
