Windows 7 7048 Upgrade or no?

I was just wondering if the new build was stable, and if it supports build 7000 drivers. Thanks.

It's been more stable than 7000 with me, it's up to you as it's your bandwidth for the download etc, but I would advise it.

Fresh is always better. But I did do an upgrade install of 7048 over my 7000 on my media center computer with only a few issues:

    * needed new Marvell Yukon drivers for my on-board NIC (the install gave me a popup telling me I'd need to do this).

    * the upgrade changed my video driver to the dreaded ATI WDM 1.1, which had caused me problems in 7000. It was a real bitch to change it back to the driver I preferred, and I still haven't figured out how to get Catalyst Control Center (which I need to correct a very slight 1/2" underscan problem on my Samsung LCD) to install/load.

edit: Installing the latest Catalyst Control Center (9-3_vista32-64_ccc_lang1) solved that issue and fixed my underscan problem

    * Killed my Bluray playback with Cyberlink PowerDVD 7.3 Ultimate (HD-DVD still works, so this is not a showstopper since I was planning to buy the new Oppo free-standing BR player at the end of the month, anyway).

    * Problem with the supplied clock gadget: turning on the second hand option pegs my processor and eventual freezes my screen. Go figure.

    On the positive side:

    * the 7048 Media Center feels much more responsive and adds some nice new features.

    * the upgrade fixed the problem I was having with system state backups failing in 7000.

    * upgrading saved me having to reinstall everything and go through a lengthy TV setup (it just transferred my old settings/channels et al).

Will I do a clean install with RTM Win7? You betcha. But this worked ok until then.

Great feedback reporting dragonfly... this is good info we all need.....

Yea, with upgrade the main problem will be conflicting drivers and "overlays" that i worry about... reason for seeing alot of ppl going thru bsod's i think... not a hardware issue.... great stuff to know dragon. Am thinking about up'n mine as well, keep us all informed of any other changes that you notice :)

Found and worked around another 7048 "bug". This one's not related to upgrade install, since the same behavior occurs on a clean install of 7048 on another box.

    I upgraded my Lenovo T60 from 7000 to 7048.

Everything seems to be working fine, although I had virtually no issues with 7000.

Downloaded the 48 iso, unziped with 7zip and ran the setup and picked upgrade.

I run Avast antivirus and it had no issues with the upgrade.

I did notice after a period of time my cpu would run 50 - 60% doing nothing. It turned out to be the clock gadget. If you exit the clock, the cpu drops to 2-5% like it should...

I've upgraded one my installs all the way from 6956 with no issues(7000,7022,7048 and once 7057 wraps up).

Give it a shot it won't hurt and if it does you can revert.
