sorry for the rant but if anyone can help me with this I would be greatly appreciated only thing I can think of is my board mite be bad.

Go into BIOS and reset everything to failsafe defaults. #1 reason Windows 7 won't install on homebuilts is "bios tweaking".

damn it. the only requirement is vista or windows 7 (any short name for it yet?). and what do i have?? XP...

just found that it can be done in xp but i cant even do the first step...

diskpart wont open
it opens for a split second then disappears. ive tried starting it from system32.

edit:
oppened CMd and typed it in.
i get the message and stuff but underneath it says
The disk management services could not complete the operation.

edit2: mine is version 5.1.3565 not 6.1something...
i guess thats because of XP

edit3: LOL ignore above! i had the disk management service disabled in msconfig.
currently formatting the hard drive ready for the install.

yea seems i got a similar problem, i recently got the Windows 7 RC, i burnt it, booted up, it passed the 'Windows Loading' 'Starting Windows' phases but then freezes on the first screen after which uses a colourful, blue wallpaper and when the mouse cursor appears, i can move the mouse but the cd drive & hard drive have stopped loading. I am currently using XP SP3 and any help would really be appreciated, Thanks.

UPDATE:I read in a few other threads this could be caused by the DVD drive im using, i replaced it and now when it reachs that same screen the mouse cursor shows the loading symbol for 5 seconds but then stops, nothing then seems to happen, i look at my HDD LED and it flashs every 2 seconds with a quik multi flash every 5 single flashs, if that made any sense, i hope you can help, Thanks.

this is your best bet i think

Install Windows 7 FAST without a DVD or USB device

its only a few steps long. i had a second hard drive so i just formatted it and used that drive letter. if you haven't then just follow the tutorial. im almost done with it except when i type cd e:\ it doesnt do anything

i can see it and access it in my computer.

I unplugged everything I could grasp. Including:
2GB of RAM (out of 4GB)
Hauppagge TV Tuner
Keyboard + Mouse (replaced with PS/2)
Second Monitor
Floppy Drive
Memory Card Reader
And disabled anything that I didn't need in the BIOS (USB and 2.0 support)

Installation worked perfectly.
The TV Tuner doesn't work (it caused BSOD in XP also) and many people say that it is very unstable. I guess that was a waste of money. If your install fails try removing any of the above.

Windows 7 seems as though it will take over from XP since for me it has been awesome. One downpoint is that Company Of Heroes won't install properly, I have to use XP to play the game.
