WAIK -The catalog file for win7 Ent. cannot be opened Hey Everybody, so here is my scenario, I have a Windows 7 (enterprise) Evaluation disk that I am using to learn WAIK (Windows Automated Installation Kit.) I have copied the Install.wim file from the Windows 7 evaluation disk and into a folder on my machine running WAIK. I have full access to that folder and subdirectories but here is my problem. I Open Windows System Image Manager, right click "Select a Windows Image or catalog file" and select my install.wim file. When I do I am prompted with a message
"The catalog file for Windows image Windows 7 ENTERPRISE cannot be opened for the following reason: Cannot find the catalog file associated with the Windows image Windows 7 ENTERPRISE. -You must have a valid catalog file to continue. Do you want to create a catalog file?
If I say yes, it gores through the process of mounting the windows image, then it sensentized the data, then unmounted the windows image, then I get the error: Windows SIM was unable to generate a catalog file.
Here is a copy of the log generated: Code: 8:06 PM :
8:06 PM : Windows SIM was unable to generate a catalog. For troubleshooting assistance, see the topic: 'Windows System Image Manager Technical Reference' in the Windows OPK or Windows AIK User's Guide.

When creating a catalog file, you must create it on the same architecture machine, for instance if you're trying to create a Windows 7 x64 catalog, you have to be running Windows SIM on a x64 machine, same for x86. | My System Specs | | |

Resolved Figured it out using Sysinternal ProcMon. It was trying to find the "install_Windows 7 ENTERPRISE.clg" file to no provail. I opened up the Windows 7 Eval. CD and within the sources folder there it was! I copied it to the root of my folder that contained my install.wim file and WAIK was able to import my image.
-Thank you to those who responded.
As noted in a previous post, I am creating the image for a x86 machine using an x64 reference machine. I haven't had any issue's yet but I'll post whether I am successful or not. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Dell Optiplex 330 OS Windows 7 Version 6.1.7600 CPU Intel Pentium Dual CPU E2180 2.00Ghz, 2000Mhz, 2 Core Memory 2.00 GB Graphics Card Intel G33/G31 Express Chipset Family Sound Card High Definition Audio Device Monitor(s) Displays Dell 20" LCD Hard Drives 150GB 7200 SATA |

WAIK on Vista Query Greetings:
Discovered a lab excercise with the WAIK download for Vista machines but encountered a software error:
WAIK is installed on a Vista Ultimate x32 machine where documentation includes a lab deployment excersise.
- As per instructions, the install.wim file was copied from the Vista DVD. A prompt message asking for the next disc of the volume was presented. Documentation has no information on this next disc. Additionally, selecting the image leads to the error message:HResult 0x800F0823.
- The excersise documentation appears to be dated to 2006. I would inquire if there is a revision or addendum to this excercise.
Supporting images are on a 'Live' site: Seeking guidance on the resolution of this issue http://cid-63220807a7f4accb.photos.live.com/browse.aspx/Deployment%20Excercise?permissionsChanged=1&1 | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number XFX OS vista ultimate x32 CPU intel Motherboard xfx Memory 2gb Graphics Card nvidia WAIK -The catalog file for win7 Ent. cannot be opened problems?
