    Hey guys,

Is it so that microsoft doesn't offer a family pack for the ultimate version?? I read online on a few websites that it only offers home premium version as a family pack. So that means that if I purchase the ultimate version, I can only install it on 1 computer right?

    Thanks again

Hey Tews thanks for that super speedy reply. But it looks like I cant buy the family version anyway. I just read that the family version is only an upgrade version and its not a full version. Considering my current OS thats a problem, I guess.

    Thanks again

The Family Pack was discontinued by MS, all of its stock is sold out now as far as can be determined.

If you have any previous qualifying Vista/XP for the second machine, you can use Upgrade version under the EULA, for which compliance is on the honor system.

If you meet the qualification, then use the link Tews posted above to do a workaround to install Upgrade version: In your case the easiest would be to simply run a Repair Install over your existing installation which will allow the use of Upgrade key because a Repair Install is an Upgrade install.

Thanks for your replies. I just asked because there are some on ebay for sale. Unused original family packs. So I was just wondering if I should get that.

    just not my day

    Hey guys,

So i got the RAM today and i tried pluggin it in. I've done this countless times before on my other com and even a week earlier on this com. Suddenly when I boot up I get 5 beeps, a pause and then the same beeping but this time continuos. Nothing appears on the monitor. Nothing! Its just a black screen but I dont get the warning that the monitor cable is unplugged either. So I took the memory out and I put it the old one back in. Again same thing. So I tried switching to a different slot and even putting both in. Still the same.

Meanwhile the computer sounds like its starting up normally, in exception for the beeping. I mean the cpu fan gets slower and all that. About the beeping, I'd say its 5 long sounds or rather 5 longer beeping, in comparison to the normal boot up beep.

I dont think its that the memory is not seated correctly because ive checked that. I've also done it again. I grounded myself with rubber sandals and one hand to the chasis at all times.

Oh yes, I also tried pulling out the memory modules and booting up. I get those 5 beeps, a pause and then continuous beeping, just the same as the memory was inside.

I really hope I didnt mess up the mem modules. But that would give me 3 shorter beeps right?

I'd appreciate your advise. I've to go online from an internet cafe now so my replies might be late. But i'll check back here at least once more today.

What the beep codes mean depends on the BIOS manufacturer and sometimes the board maker. If you post detailed info on the motherboard and or BIOS someone may be able to look it up. As you already have put the old module back in. Double check all your cables and connectors to make sure you didn't knock something loose when you swapped RAM. Stuff like the power cable for the CPU fan etc. With the power off and the PC unplugged reset the BIOS with the clear CMOS jumper. It's usually somewhere handy to your CMOS battery. Normally you move it over for a couple of seconds and then move it back. READ the manual for the CORRECT procedure. There is the potential to damage your motherboard if you do it incorrectly. Mainly if you leave the jumper in the wrong position and power up or move it with the power on. If you are getting beep codes and no video it is not posting, it is not booting up. POST = Power On Self Test.

    Hello alphanumeric,

I'll try to locate the CMOS jumper and reset the bios. I've to look for it in the manual. I posted earlier the motherboard is a Geforce 6100 sm-m, I think v1.0. I read in the manual that it runs an AWARD bios, if that helps. But ive googled beep codes for AWARD bios and found nothing about 5 beeps a pause and then continuos beeping. I'll double check all the cables again when I get back.

Thank you for your reply. More ideas would help too :)
