Can I possibly handle Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit?

    I'm using a Compaq tc4200 tablet PC

When Windows 7 came out my school offered to install it on our machines for the duration of our college education. I've been running windows 7 Basic (32-Bit) for months with no problem and absolutely love it.

The school basically told me recently, however, that we can't keep this copy of 7 but can upgrade to 7 Ultimate 64-bit for a student price of $25.

My computer has a pretty old Intel 915gm chipset and 2gb ram.

Will my computer be able to run 7 64-bit? (I cannot upgrade my ram any more; It's maxed)
I really don't want to put XP back on my computer....

You should be able to run it just fine... and at that price, its a steal!

Shouldn't be a problem. Ultimate really isn't any heavier on system resources than home premium, professional or enterprise. You can disable the aero effects if they don't work well. Ultimate just has a few other features that the other versions don't have.

I'm not sure what sort of X64 graphics drivers Intel has for the 915gm. They have no official support for either the 32 or 64 bit versions of Win7. I see no indication that there were 64 bit Vista drivers for the 915gm, either.

Does your school only offer the X64 version of Ultimate? I'd be more optimistic that you could run it with the 32 bit version, although the 915gm isn't supposed to support Aero Glass effects.

The HP website does not show any 64bit drivers for anything for your model so you may have problems with video, sound and other internal devices. If your school has 64bit versions it should also have 32bit versions available.
