Win 7 64 bit Black screen of death?

hello,

new to here, ok sorry for the confusion i had good old internet explorer just close every window on me while writing this problem. so i am trying to install windows 7, everything goes fine...i get to the last check mark and it is completing installation, then my screen goes black. Just BLACK. it's the computer problem of my life, i can't even begin to know what the real problem is. windows support says it's probably a hardware device.

i am unfortunately running vista right now, and i have ran Ubuntu on this desktop without any problems. it is a custom build, so i know enought to put it together, just not enough to know the fine details of the drivers world. so i am stumped. i have let the Black screen sit for hours and nothing happend (to make sure it was or was not installing) i have to reset, if i do and let it boot normally, i get a windows logo and then black screen again. if i go into safe mode, it will tell me windows cannot complete installation and needs restart, thus looping over and over. i am going to try using another copy of win 7 to see if my disc is corrupted, otherwise i really have no idea. any help would be great.

oh and my specs are
intel core duo wolfdale 3.0 ghz
8 gigs DDR2 ram (4 currently as i was told to take some out might help)
(2)GIGABYTE 9800GTX+ graphics SLI(i have used drivers from CD and from internet no joy)
WD 500 GB hard drive
EVGA 750i SLI Mobo

I have no idea whether or not your problem is similar, but someone on the forums recently solved a black screen problem of their own:

Thanks for the help i did take a look at that problem, although i think his problem was slightly different. How do i change this thread to "SOLVED"? anyways i went to best buy and bought a 9400 GT nvidia card (i don't have an onboard video so i couldn't bypass my 9800 GTX+) it was the oldest card they had on the shelf. well once i put it in my computer and tried to install win 7 again, it got to completing installation and flashed black then screen came back and the resolution changed. so that right there confirmed that win 7 didn't like my video card (9800 GTX+) installation finished finally after that and i got everything downloaded and updates. then i re-installed my (9800 GTX+ cards) and downloaded the newest drivers in that order. it is now working great, and my computer is happy! then i went to best buy and returned the 9400 GT card since all i needed it for was troubleshooting. :) thanks again for the help i hope this helps many others out there. one thing i can tell you is that windows 7 during installation will try to set up your video card or display at the end of the installation sooo...if you have a black screen somewhere near that point, you probably have a video card problem.

You can also try booting into Safe Mode which will use Standard VGA display driver so you can install the correct display driver for a card that won't load driver in final driver-loading phase.

Another more frequent cause is having a TV tuner or other card outputted to TV or projector so that as soon as it's driver is loaded, the monitor goes blank.

Glad you sorted it out. Hope that GRUB doesn't give you any complications if the HD was not deep cleaned before install.

Glad you got your problem fixed! Yet I've got to comment that Best Buy had nothing to do with it and they're not in Business to provide you with Test Inventory!

If you are going to do crap like this you may want to reconsider whether or not you want to post statements like and not encourage others to do that same!

i actually tried that, there wasn't much Q&A so i never explained that part, it didn't work for me. safe mode usually does work, thanks.

wow, not sure if your mad in this one, but it's not my fault windows 7 doesn't install correctly by default. i agree completely that best buy had nothing to do with it. it only had to do with the fact that, if i switched video cards i would know everything i needed to know. if anything i provided more for Microsoft to report for windows 7.
