how to back up and reinstall

    Hi all,
I have purchased an external HDD and want to know is it possible to back up everything, (OS, files, everything) and in the event of a need to format/reinstall due to bloating, virus or whatever, being able to reinstall the whole lot from my external HDD. I'm a novice with this sort of thing, haven't a clue about "imaging" etc so is there a tutorial or simple explanation somewhere? Txs for any help

    I use BartPE.
Our dev's added network connections and ghost.
5 minutes to load, and 30+ minutes to image up to network.

When backing up Win7 with Ghost 11,You Will must likely have a bad backup.
    You will need Ghost 15.

    We do use ghost11.
However, I havnt noticed anything wrong with our backups. Everything appears to work as expected. Could you elaborate on that?

Coincidentally, I'm bringing the dev's image down right now...

You can backup a Win7 System Image to your external so that reimaging your HD is as easy as booting the WIn7 DVD/Repair CD and applying the saved image to the HD or a replacement.

However, if you are wanting to reinstall to overcome bloatware or for performance reasons, then you want to back up your files so that you can transfer them back after a clean reinstall of Win7 to your HD.

If you are familar with your active User files, then you can just drag their folders (Documents, Pictures, Videos, download, etc) over to the external one-by-one from the C:Users folder. If you are afraid you will forget something then just drag your active User file over.

After clean reinstall, drag them back by opening the folder in external, selecting all, then dragging the whole group into the new folder in Win7.
