Again this computer may be too new for Windows XP. XP may not know how to communicate with the motherboard, drives, chipset etc. If the vendor's web site has drivers for XP then you should be able to get it running.

Is this the exact error message: "STOP 0x0000008e" error message during Windows XP setup

Note that the other stop code is OX000000050 for this RAM error during XP install.

There are only 64 bit Win7 and Vista drivers for your SATA controller here: http://support.dell.com/support/down...id=-1&impid=-1

You would need to try to use XP 64 bit and load either of the SATA drivers to see if it will take them at F6 prompt using floppy drive, or slipstream them in.

It is unlikely that hardware this modern will adapt unless you research in depth your SATA controller and find an XP driver which will work, perhaps one which has been modded or built for that reason.

Have you looked into running XP in Virtual Mode?

Does your HDD selection still remain blank after disconnecting your Windows 7 HDD?

Try it, it might help getting XP installed.
