    Windows 7 crashes on installation

Hi all, for some time i've been trying to install 7 on my PC. Everytime i try it crashes at different points, sometimes loading files, sometimes during installation, sometimes installing services and i get different stop errors like 0x0000098, 0x000021 and others i can't recall at the moment.

I thought this problem was due to my HD so yesterday i bought a new one, but the problem remained the same, i still cant install 7. So i thought it was maybe my RAM being defective, so i ran memtest86+ from an ubuntu CD on them and they came back clean after 9 passes.

So now i have no idea what can be happening, ive reseted my BIOS as well and to no effect, can anyone help me?

Where did you get your copy of Windows 7? Could you have a bad DVD/download?

Also, what version of Windows 7 are you trying to install?

Is this an upgrade? Did you have any unexplained errors with the previous OS on the PC?

Offhand I would say that's probably some obscure ESD problem if you are confident the RAM isn't to blame and your installation media is known good. Other than that, driver issues is the most likely culprit, expecially if the computer worked fine with XP.

I downloaded my copy from MSDN Academy its windows 7 professional 64bit. I have had the same problem before with windows XP, from time to time it would flash blue screen and reboot, it would go away for a couple of weeks then happen again, very weird.

Dont have a flash drive to install it at the moment, ill try that.

I always try to do fresh installs and it keeps happening, its not an upgrade, i always format the disc.

The RAM came back clean with memtest and the HD is new, i dont know what else it can be.

    Thanks for any help.

Try clearing the CMOS: Clear CMOS - 3 Ways to Clear the CMOS - Reset BIOS

Do you have the latest BIOS version update from computer or mobo maker's Support DOwnloads webpage for your model.

What is the SATA controller setting? Try AHCI first, then IDE if necessary.

If this happened with XP then look at mobo wiring connections, swap out cables, check for short or bad connection.
