Got customer's Win7 Upgrade Key; have no install media!

    Hey guys,

Got an interesting one here. I need a Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit UPGRADE install disc to use with her student-purchased ultimate upgrade key. How the heck can I obtain one of those? TechNet has nothing of the sort.

    Thanks, :)

MS made good on the Student download not providing an ISO here: http://gizmodo.com/5391268/microsoft...grade-problems

The installer since Vista is the same for both OEM and retail - you only need to get the correct version for your Product Key.

All versions can be unlocked in any installer by removal of the ei.cfg file in Sources, or by using the ei.cfg removal tool on the ISO: Ei.cfg Removal Utility Lets You Use Any Product Key With Your Windows 7 Disc - Installation - Lifehacker

the place she bought the key should provide a download link for the media.

She lost the original download link and the folks at MS I spoke to in activation had me convinced that the key provided was not valid with the installed version.

So then I investigated further... and the solution is something entirely different and quite ridiculous.

Turns out, in both places where she wrote the key, she copied an invalid character; a different invalid character in both instances (in one, a G swapped for a Q, and in the other, an 8 for a B). I simply tried all four possible combinations and eventually ended up with the correct, valid key. No reinstall required!

So yeah, this was a bizarre one. Oh, the things we techs go through for our customers...

Thanks for the help guys. Have a great weekend,

    -Steve
