Windows 7: Access problems after upgrading Vista to Window7

I just upgraded from Vista to Windows 7. Running Windows media player; the following error appears when I attempt to play any file,

file might be in use, or might not have access to the computer where file is stored, or proxy settings might not be correct.




Documents: When I attempt to open a document I get the following.
‘word cannot open this file – user does not have access privileges’.

I'm able to modify individual files and set permissions to full control and this seems to resolve the problem for each file.

I enabled the admin account logged in as admin and seem to be ale to access all files.

How might I fix this problem for my personal account?

Sounds like a bad in-place Upgrade, which always transfers some level of corruption from the old OS and is never as good as a clean install.

Clean Install Windows 7

Hello I'm pretty frustrated, I've been trying to access my media files to no avial. i upgraded to Windows 7 64 home premium (Clean install) from Vista 64 (Media files where saved on portable Usb drive) and now I can't get to my work. I've years of live preformaces of various artists here in Aberdeen, Wa. Including Nirvana, I've been working on a compilation that features famous and not so famous artists. i just don't understand what has happend. This 15 years worth of work. Please help me

What exactly happens when you plug in the external and try to access it at Start>Computer?

If nothing, can you plug it into another computer and access the files?

When you copied them over to the external, did you check that they are accessible then?

Do you have a Vista backup image from when the files were loaded there, or any other backups?
