I finished building my new machine over the last two days, and everything went beautifully. The x64 media I downloaded from Digital River installed without a flaw, and the key I bought with the 32-bit version in October took.
I did have an issue with activation, though. Online activation did not work; it would not accept my key. Guess it thought of it as a second installation... I had to call the toll-free number and activate by phone. Interesting experience... It is all automated, with voice-recognition. First, I read off a code that my machine gave me. Then they asked me how many computers the SW was running on. When I said "one", it gave me an activation code to type in. It all took less than 10 minutes, and now I'm up and running!
So anyway, I'm now happily running my very first x64 system! See specs below for my new machine...
Hi there, Sorry if this is the wrong thread or if the question been asked somewhere I can't find. I have Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit. When it comes to software, if a website offers a 64-bit version and a 32-bit that is 64-bit compatible, is either one more compatible/stable than the other? If that makes sense.
kiwichick, both versions, as you describe them, should work fine. As the 64 bit version is, well, native 64 bit, I recommend using that version. 64 bit software is designed specifically for running in a 64 bit environment.
Thanks Petey7, I asked mostly for software that I want for both my 32 & 64-bit computers and whether I should download both versions or just the 32-bit with 64-Bit compatibility.
I'd like to add if you have a Large Address Space aware 32-bit program like Civ 4, rusiing on Win 7 64 you get the full 4 GB.
Very informative and without a doubt useful info here
I have a Asus CM5470 still factory and do not have a bunch
on the hard drive, no music saved or downloaded; I have approx 600photos
saved and it seems that sometimes the system just gets bogged down with
things to do and I have checked most places to find if this is the reason
and yet when I first hook it up last year the speed just scared the sh_t out of me
and now a year later I am wishing I would have waited for the I series from Intel and
see if they work better than a quad core with 6gb of memory, most of my problems
come from youtube and some other video access sites and when I go to Dailymotion
the video's are clear and without buffering problems like on youtube; is this because
of bandwidth or just my system? Anyway I may take another look at I series processors
from Intel and a new video card from nvidia and its competent rival and see if things need to
be tweak a bit, I am Running Win7 64bit and its great offline and just so slow when I go
to certain sites and would like to know should I consider overclocking or find the reason for
decrease speed while online?
