Default User Profile Headaches (Scripting)
I managed to make a mostly custom default user profile using the Microsoft-supported KB Article. However, there are some changes that didn't take, mainly:
Taskbar Icon settings
Notification Icon settings
Recently Used Programs list settings
Our next thought was to embed a script on the PC that performed the tasks we require that the Windows sysprep and/or minisetup does not allow us to cooperate on. We would do this either through the unattend.xml file or through a script that we put in the HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce of the default user profile so that all users who log into the machine for the first time have the script run on their PC and change the items we want changed.
I'm not really interested in a TweakUI-type thing if I can avoid it. And GPO and GP Extensions are not a viable answer right now for internal business reasons.
That all said, is there anyone familiar with scripting tools that can help me tell what I have to add to where and/or read changes to a registry so we can record them into a reg file for future use? I have a basic background in computer programming so the ACT of scripting is not unfamiliar to me, but I've never found particularly good tools or references.
