    Help!

Hi. I'm hoping someone can help me install 7 RC.

I had the Beta, and that installed perfectly, had no problems whatsoever.

However, I have been trying to install RC since yesterday and have read dozens of threads in this, and other fora.

Background: I've done clean installs only.

After, the "Installing Updates" bit, I get a message saying that the computer needs to be restarted. After the countdown, nothing happens, and then a BSOD with the BUGCODE_USB_DRIVER error. I've checked this out, and it seems to be a problem that Vista had with a USB system file. Microsoft released a patch for it.

Anyway, if I manually restart, the setup window continues with "Completing Installation", but it just hangs there, for hours and hours. I aborted in the end. I've tried several times reinstalling with the various fixes suggested in the other threads: disabling the display adapter, removing all peripherals except for the keyboard and mouse (I even removed them at one time!).

I think I should try disabling USB in the BIOS, and when I get a PS2 keyboard, I will, but can anyone else suggest anything else in the meantime?

Thanks. Sorry for the long post!

I have this exact problem. I tried several times on different hard drives. Sometimes I got the BSOD and others I didn't but the end result was that it was stuck at Completing Install. At the times when It didn't get the BSOD I still had to manually restart the PC since it was frozen.

If anyone finds a fix to this please post!

I unplugged everything I could grasp. Including:
2GB of RAM (out of 4GB)
    Hauppagge TV Tuner
Keyboard + Mouse (replaced with PS/2)
    Second Monitor
    Floppy Drive
    Memory Card Reader
And disabled anything that I didn't need in the BIOS (USB and 2.0 support)

    Installation worked perfectly.
The TV Tuner doesn't work (it caused BSOD in XP also) and many people say that it is very unstable. I guess that was a waste of money. If your install fails try removing any of the above.

Windows 7 seems as though it will take over from XP since for me it has been awesome. One downpoint is that Company Of Heroes won't install properly, I have to use XP to play the game.

Rizzy - system specs please. Also, disconnect any USB device you have attached.

Kall123 - are they SATA hard drives? Do you have access to an old CRT?
