Windows 7: Issue with System Recovery - Vista to W7

12 Oct 2010   #21

Are you booting the install DVD to try install to C?

Remove all but 2gb of RAM to try install.

Did you burn your own DVD? If so, burn another using ImgBurn at 4x speed.

Have you made your Recovery Disks so you have a path back to Vista if you need it? Without Recov disks or partition, you would need to find a Vista installer to reinstall Vista if you ever decide to sell the computer but keep your retail Win7 copy. If you overwrite Vista, consider running Recovery to know it works and then make your Recov disks. Then you can wipe it if you want.

Once you've done that, you're good to wipe the HD to try install which is what OP found that works on your model.

When you List Disk, determine which disk number is the target HD then use that # in Select Disk #.
