    win 7 installation issue

    hi,

here is the problem i'm having. i downloaded both 32 bit rc and 64 bit rc from microsoft. burned both to dvd as i have with numerous images before.
used 3 different programs. downloaded the iso's from microsoft twice.

i have my boot order set to dvd 1st. when it asks me to hit any key to boot dvd the machine restarts. i am able to boot to xp home and xp pro cd and load windows from each, also my hiren's boot cd will load and run.

no matter how many times i burn this or what speed i burn it at i get the same issue. even when i used an older beta of 7 that i installed previously although on another system and i know the disc worked. i recently upgraded the pc.

i have machine overclocked, but i already reverted back to defaults and same issue. all the hardware is in good working order.

    system specs
    core i-7 920 @ 3.7ghz
    evga x58 tri sli motherboard
    6gb ddr3 corsair dominator 1600mhz
    500gb sata2 seagate 32mb
    asus dvd-rw sata
    creative x-fi extreme music pci
    true 1366 w/120mm fan
    ati 4870 hd 1gb
    750w psu

system more than meets the requirements. i also tried a few different ways to try to get win 7 setup to go on a usb thumb drive. i kept having problems with it.. i know machine is capable of booting to usb. i tried different ide/achi settings, did'nt seem to help either. also i tried ide dvd-rw instead of the sata, again the same rebooting.

my machine is stable even with the overclock tested with prime95 and intelburntest 1.9 and all the temps are good too. everything basically works great until i run a win 7 installation dvd. i have not tried to use the upgrade while in windows, but i probably will. i would prefer a fresh install anyways.

anyways i hope someone can help me figure this one out. thanks.

well got it installed...but now that it is installed and i tried to add my ram back in it reboots just like it did when i tried to run setup from cd.
this happens with 2 2gb sticks or 3 2gb sticks..if i go back to 1 2gb stick it works fine. whats the point of having the 64 bit if you are stuck at 2gb lol.

anyway thanks again for your help.

I started installing win7 RC from scratch, at first it was working till it reached "completeing installtion" and it went to restart it freezed on the windows logo and no action from the H.D.D or the DVDRom when i tried it again it freezed after "windows preparing files" only the "starting windows" with the win logo, i tried to upgrade running it on winXP it didn't work also, i made 2 copies from the iso source with 2 different DVDRom and 2 different DVD discs. PS: i installed this copy from the same DVD disc i used on my desktop, on a my Dell Notebook with 3G RAM it worked so fine with no sweet and no problems.
PS: I have one ram with double side chips and the other one is single side chips.
I am really stuned, plz help.

could be ram issue..try it with each single stick..or run memtest

try partitioning the drive with another utility...not setup from win cd/dvd
like gparted patition magic even the utility for your specific hd manufacturer data lifeguard (wd) all the major drives offer one

if you can find a hiren's boot cd it has all the stuff you need on it..it's about 97 mb iso

more than likely your setup dvd is ok if it worked on a different machine.

i hope something might work for you
