Windows 7: I'm confused I have recently bought a custom built computer running windows XP and I have decided to buy the latest windows OS.
Now, should I go with the reliable 32 bit or the future ready 64 bit?
These are my PC's specifications: Motherboard: Asrock Dual Core VSTA
Processor: Intel Pentium D 805 (Dual Core) 2.66GHz SL8ZH Skt 775
Memory: 2GB (2x1GB) DDR PC3200 400MHz (Two more available slots)
Graphics Card: GeForce 9500GT 1GB GDDR2 DVI PCI-Express
Now, as I don't have the fastest processor in the world, I wasn't sure if it could manage the 64 bit version.
And I currently only have 2gb ram, but could be upgraded in the future.
I also have allot of old games and programs that I fear that would not work or would have problems in the 64 bit version.
32 or 64? Ah I cant decide! | My System Specs |

32 or 64? Ah I cant decide! If you plan to add more than 3.5GB go with x64
Stick with 32-bit if you plan to use 2GB but you'll have to do a clean install of x64 if you upgrade to 4GB+ | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom Build OS Win7 Ultimate SP1 x64 / Windows 8 Pro / Android CPU Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 OC'd 3.08GHz Motherboard Asus Rampage formula LGA775 Memory 8GB DDR2 900Mhz Graphics Card Zotac GTX 460OC 2GB GDDR5/Asus EN9600GT 1GB DDR3 PhyX Sound Card Supreme FX2 Monitor(s) Displays AOC 22' Screen Resolution 1680x1050 Keyboard Prolink keyboard Mouse Prolink optical mouse PSU Cooler Master GX 650W Cooling Cooler Master V6 + 3X fans Hard Drives 3X500GB hitachi, 2TB internal, 500GB Seagate FreeAgent, 640GB Samsung Internet Speed 1MiB/s Other Info 5.1 System + 2.1 System |

I'm running the 32 bit version of Windows 7 Pro on one laptop with 2 Gb RAM due it not being a 64 bit system. I was also running a 64 bit Windows 7 Pro on another laptop that had 4 Gb RAM (now 8 Gb) and to be honest the 32 bit laptop was just as fast loading and running as the 64 bit laptop which was astounding considering it's almost 6 y/o.
You will not be sorry with the 32 bit version and as already been said if you plan to go over 4 Gb at some point you'll need to do a fresh install of the 64 bit version. This may be a good time to think about upgrading your RAM and maybe picking up an SSD as the repository for your Windows 7 load. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number DELL XPS Studio 435T OS Vista 64 Ultimate, Windows 7 64 Ultimate, Ubuntu 9.10 CPU i7 975 3.3 GHz Extreme (Factory OC'd to 3.6 GHz) Motherboard DELL provided Memory 18 Gb Tri-Channel 1066 Graphics Card ATI 5970 2048 Mb Sound Card X-Fi Extreme Gamer Monitor(s) Displays Vizio 37" HD-TV Screen Resolution 1920 x 1080 Keyboard Logitech Performance K350 Wireless Mouse Logitech Performance MX Wireless PSU DELL Provided 475 watts Case DELL Cooling 3 fans Hard Drives 1.5 Tb HDD

I had to check whether the Pentium 805 D supports X64.
It does.
I suggest staying with X86 (32 bit), though, as long as you can live with 4GB of RAM or less. X64 has more compatibility issues with older software. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number homegrown OS Windows 7 Pro X64 SP1 CPU Intel Core I7-3930k Motherboard Asus P9X79 Pro Memory 16 GB Gskill DDR3-2133 Graphics Card eVGA GTX680 Sound Card Creative X-Fi Titanium Monitor(s) Displays As PA246Q Screen Resolution 1920 X 1200 Keyboard cheap Logitech USB Mouse Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer (old optical) USB PSU PCP&C Silencer 750 Crossfire Case Silverstone FT02 Cooling Noctua NH-D14 Hard Drives Corsair Force GT, 120 GB
