Windows 7: after installing win 7 only boots in vga or safe mode

hi,

first i tried to install with my graphics card ATI ASUS EAH4350,but i couldnt install win 7. it stopped when "starting for first use" message.

but i found solution to install Windows 7 in vga mode and it worked.

then again i put my graphics card and started win 7. it automatically installed vga driver and asked me to restart before i install ati catalyst driver from cd.after restarting when black screen comes before "win 7 welcome screen" it freezes with mouse pointer.


i have been searching many forums,but found no solution. it only starts in vga mode or safe mode.


by the way i have win xp as well in c drive nad installed win 7 in h drive.

yes i am playing games on win xp with that graphics card for a while

Did you download the driver from ASUS? If not then I'd remove the driver and the device in Control Panel, shut down and cold boot it in Safe Mode with networking, download CCleaner and Drivesweeper and run them removing any graphic card item. Downliad the latest drivers from Asus for your card using Windows 7 and extract it but do not load it. Shut down and cold boot into normal Windows and see if this brings up the right driver, if not then go to Control Panel choose Device Manager, then choose your video card and when you double click it brings up another screen, then choose update driver and point it to where you extracted your Asus drivers.

It might help if you supplied some more details about your system. I assume from what you write that your motherboard has onboard video, that you could install Windows 7 using that onboard video, but had problems when switching to an add-in graphics card.

Assuming that you have the BIOS set up to boot from the PCI-E graphics first, all that I can think of is to boot into WIndows using the onboard video. Remove the display adapter from Device manager and power down. (Do not reboot.) Intsall the 4350 and connect the monitor to it. Power on. With any luck, Windows will install basic drivers for it (probably generic VGA). Then install the Catalyst suite.

It's possible that Asus customizes drivers for the card, but I wouldn't expect it.

i removed all drivers with driver cleaner and installed ati catalyst...
now it booted in normal mode
