Install Win7 without DVD or USB on C:(Vista)

    Hi,

I hope someone can help me here. The facts are, I have Windows XP<-changed from Vista, a legit Ultimate key, no DVD drive and no USB stick or HDD. I read in some articles that it is possible, to download the Windows 7 ISO and mount it like for example with Virtualdrive or CloneDVD, then just run the setup, and it will work fine with complete installation after reboot.

My question now is, because I read in a step by step guide, that I would need to install it to an CLEAN partition, I also got this out from an Youtube video. Is this really true? So I cannot just install a new installation to C or the current vista partition)? Doesn't the setup just copies all files into an TMP folder, and would rename the old windows to C:\windows.OLD?

Hi there timr :) If you have a spare 4GB on your hard drive can i suggest making a recovery partition? Recovery Partition - Create that will do what you want it to do.

First back your all data to DVD, USB stick or Ex HD.
Back up your Win 7 ISO you may need to a clean install in 2 month time.

    Hi,
thx for the answers but that does not help me with my question. I don't want to risk changing free disc space on the fly. The question was, can I just install Windows 7 IN a current Vista or XP environment <on the same partition where the current OS is> (on C) from a mounted ISO, so it will just reboot after copying the setup files, and the installation will go on without any DVD and the setup will leave Vista besides Win7 in the OLD folder. Like in this guide: http://www.intowindows.com/installin...rive-method-2/ The problem I have is just it says: 'In this method we install Windows 7 on a clean partition like the normal DVD boot method.'

NO. You cannot. the win 7 installer wont let you, and there would be dup files with the same names.

    Cant be done

    Sorry

Did I see it before ? - LOL , getting forgetful.

Unless you prettied it up/changed it .

Good tut - straightforward and clear - using the simplest method to achieve it - always the best way.
