Hey guys,
My question is, where would I go to seperate programs from user to user? like if I wanted to install a program on one user, and then have it so i can install the same program again on a different user. Can I do all that one one computer? I thought I had an idea of what to do about it, but i was off.

What's the reasoning behind this. I feel like i'm missing something in understanding you.
- Is it because you need different program settings for each user?
- You'd like it to run it as separate process? (windows 7 supports this)
- You wish to install different versions?
- Something Else?
What program is it? I may be able to test it for you and come up with something.
Basically it may depend on whether the program itself supports a dual installation, although you may be able to get around it with program visualization. Given that the registry settings are shared and you can probably see from either it if you look at the installed programs, your needs might be a little tricky. Anyway, I'll wait for your response and take it from there.

I wanted to install different versions of the same game on the computer, 1 completely updated version, and one version thats not completely up to date.
It is the Sims 3 , right now there is a compatibility issue going on and everyone is trying how to figure out how to play one program called the sims 3 create a world tool. To lightly explain the situation, the most resent expansion for the sims 3 required a patch download that caused the create a world program to crash every time you try to open it. We have found out that if you do not install the most resent expansion and do not install the most recent patch for the game, you could still run the create a world program fine. What some people want to know and try is creating 2 user accounts on your computer, setting program files so they are not shared between users, and try to install the sims 3 with all the most resent patches on one user, and then install again and have the non-updated version of the game running on the other user. I was wondering if it's possible to do something like this.
Hi V1A2, Lucky for yoou I am a Sims player and know exactly what your on about.
Firstly, as far as I know No it is not possible to install a Program twice, due to Registry Limitations.
This leaves you with three options: Use Revo Uninstaller: Revo Uninstaller Pro - Uninstall software, remove programs, solve uninstall problems to remove it between test runs.
Dual boot Windows and install a copy on each with different Patch versions
Or! Run Sims 3 in a Virtual Machine, although I doubt that would work very well due to graphical limitations
Personally I have found that the Dual boot method works very well.
I know that there will be further questions depending on which one you decide to go for :) so please feel free to ask

Ah, Unfortunately I'm not a sims 3 player. Good thing that severedsolo is here. :)
What about using VMware? I played oblivion and Bioshock through it a-ok and that wasy there is no reason to dual boot.
Not a problem :) I'm sure I can knock up a quick guide. Couple of quick questions:
Do you want both OS's to have access to the same User Profile? (My Documents etc. where CAW saves the files) I'm assuming thats a yes, because you want to import Worlds into the patched game right?
Can you please upload a snip of your Disk Management Screen? (Just type it into the Start Menu, Snipping Tool is there as well) so I can write a personalised guide for you.
Also, if you can fill out your system specs undder User CP at the top that would be very useful.
Please also be aware that because of Licensing limitations, the 2nd OS will only be available for 90 days (with Rearming) before it will have to be reinstalled, as technically it is against the EULA to dual boot with the same license, even though windows will probably allow it.
Actually, I do agree that a VM would be a good option. Unfortunately you need a pretty high end processor to manage it effectively, (which Tim is lucky enough to have) If you fill out your system specs we can advise you whether a VM would work for you

Well I'm pleased to tell you that your Processer supports Hardware Assisted Virtualization. This means that there is every chance that Sims 3 will run happily in a VM. Of course it might not.... but I can't tell you until you try it. If you choose to.
Would you prefer to go down this route? Or would you rather I just write up a Dual Boot guide for you? (Which will definitely work)

There are a number of solutions to this problem if you google for them. I'll list one here might work who knows. There are a few other so called solutions if you look for them.
I found the solution!!!!! I tried almost everything there was out there from updating my drivers, getting rid of all my downloaded content, unintstalling the game and re installing it... but then I found this out. All you have to do is disable Data Excecution Prevention (DEP) for The Sims 3.
FOR WINDOWS:
Go To Start - Settings - Control panel and select System. Click on the Advanced tab and in the preformance section click Settings. Click the tab for Data execution prevention and click the option to [Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select] go to browse then find where your game was installed and add TS3.EXE to the list. (The program may just be called TS3) Make sure it is an EXE extention (right click, go to properties and it will tell you) Try to add all versions that you have ( TS3, WA, HELS and Ambitions).
MAKE SURE YOU APPLY THE CHANGES AND REBOOT YOUR SYSTEM.
