C drive missing from Disk Management

    Hey guys,

I don't know what happend just know.
I installed Linux Ubuntu on a separate hdd of mine and when I was done I removed it and reinserted my win7 HDD. The boot manager was missing so I did a repair with my win7 disc.

All went well but now my Local C drive is missing(win7 is installed on it) from disk management. The two partitions still show in My Computer as "C" and "D"(the two partitions are on the same HDD).
Drive "S" is my storage drive, it comes up in disk management, but why not my other HDD. Keep in mind the drive with linux on is no longer plugged in.
The drives are connecte to the same sata ports as originaly.

Last question, why is the system reserve (drive "F") now suddenly showing in my computer, it was never there, I would like to "hide" again.

Plz help. Im freaking out a little.

    I attached screen shots aswell:

Your S Storage drive has had the System active MBR written to it when you ran Repair. You should have only had the Windows 7 HD plugged in at the time.

Unplug all other HD's, plug in Win7 HD, boot Win7 DVD Repair console or Repair CD, mark Win7 partition active using Diskpart commands give below from Command Line, then click through to Recovery Tools list to run Startup Repair up to 3 separate times with reboots until Win7 starts.

    Partition - Mark as Active

Once Win7 starts, you can plug back the other HD's making sure Win7 is first HD to boot in BIOS setup, but boot into DVD or Repair CD and use Diskpart to mark S "Inactive" so it doesn't interfere.

This will write out the System Reserved partition. It may have been compromised by GRUB and was likely overridden by the Repair you ran which wrote the MBR to S. If you want it to continue booting Win7 via SysReserved, then first try marking it Active and running Startup Repair x3 instead of Win7 partition. If it won't start, then recover MBR into Win7 partition as given and later delete SysReserved.

type cmd in start search box.

When the black box pops up, click it, then type

    diskpart
    (press enter )

    lis disk
    (press enter)

    lis vol
    (press enter)

make a note of what it says - or post a screenie

    exi
    (to leave diskpart)

    close cmd prompt.

The answer there is quite simple actually. When swapping drives out the S drive for storage became HD0 as seen in the first image you have there and now sees the mbr and boot information likely the default boot device as well.

When reinstalling the 7 host drive and found it unbootable that was due to the storage still being automatically set as default in the bios. The upgrade repair install placed the 7 boot info on the S drive and apparently hid C not the 100mb system reserved partition apparently.

One thing to take a look at is the bios setup to which drive is on the top of the hard drive list as well as a look at the root of the S drive to see if any 7 boot files are present.

At other times however a loose plug in the sata port or problem with the data cable itself can explain why a drive will seemingly disappear. I had that problem at times with one of the storage drives until a new build saw all new cables used there.

@ SIW2 here is the screen shot(done within Win 7) it shows the S and E drive but not my main HDD with partitions C D & F. However if I disconnect drive S and insert my win7 disc and to a repair install and all that jazz as instructed by gregrocker I can see my main HDD with the partitions C D and F(system reserve) when entering diskpart, the pc boots fine no problem, the HDD with partitions C D & F aint showing in "Disk Manegement" how ever it does in My Computer, see my first post.

I aslo ran a cmd promt within win7 while the S drive was disconnected, it then tells me now drives are online but I can still access them through my comp.

    Not sure what you mean.

Can you now see all the partitions on both HD's in Diskpart, but they are still not showing in Disk Management ?

Ok so here what's happening so far:
-My win7 is booting perfectly fine with ONLY the Main HD connected(2 partitions = C & D + system reserved)
-It also boots fine with my S drive connected (storage drive), I formatted the S drive so there are defenitly NO boot files on it, I double checked with FolderSizes.
-FolderSizes also indicates that all the boot files are located on the "C" drive.

    NOW:
-Everthing is working fine as it was before except fot the fact that my Win7 hdd with partitions C & D are not showing in disk mangr and also NOT in diskpart(see screenshot below) I also typed in list vol. this was done without the S drive connected.
-However, if the S drive IS connected then I can see something in disk part(see screen shot)

Appart from all this, why is the system reserved showing in My Computer?
    Can it be hidden again?

Tnx allot for all the help

Anyone with any suggestions, do I need to be worried about the missing HDD or not?

    Tnx

If you read J King's Tutorial on how to Activate a Partition Partition - Mark as Active you should be able to deactivate the one you wish to be hidden.

As far as your C: drive is concerned, I wonder if when you deleted things the MBR for Ubuntu got corrupted, I had this happen when a drive I had to RMA was not working right and I removed Ubuntu then running Repair brought back Ubuntu (would not boot was just the boot sector) and an earlier version of W7 Home (same as Ubuntu).
