Want to reinstall windows, computer did not come with installation CD

    Hello.

I've decided that I would like to reinstall Windows 7 on my computer. I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop, and I am currently running Windows Home Premium, 64 bit, which came with the computer, already installed when I bought it.

However, since my computer came with Windows already installed, it did not come with an Windows 7 installation disk. Is there any way around this? Can I download an .iso for the CD somewhere or something?

    Thanks.

Most computers come with a way to restore factory specs. It is usually an f key pressed quickly and rapidly during boot.

Old list, you may have to use your manual.

Fill out the System Specs part of User CP, including the model number of the Toshiba laptop or post the info here. You (or someone else here) should be able to find the Users manual on teh Toshiba web site that will have the instructions on how to restore the computer to it's factory state.

    Just FYI.

    1) Your laptop has a factory recovery partition that the other members have been talking about. Using this, you can revert your machine to the state in which you first unboxed it. For this you need to launch the Toshiba Recovery app from within windows or by presiing a special key at boot such as F11. But check at the Toshiba website/ forums or your manual, what exactly the procedure/ key is. No reactivation of windows will be required.

Remember that this will reinstall all the bloatware (Toshiba stuff, good and bad), your laptop came originally loaded with. If that bothers you, you can use a tool like PC Decrapifier to get rid of the stuff you dont want. Also, back up your data beforehand.

    2) You havent told us exactly why you want to reinstall. If you want to have a clean install without any OEM stuff on it, then step 1) will not help. In that case, borrow a dvd from a friend, do a CLEAN INSTALL of the same version that your computer came with, then activate using the COA sticker key at the back of your computer. You will need to call MS for that.

Ok yeah, I know how to get to that Toshiba Recovery thing. I would like to do a Repair Install, as explained in this tutorial. The tutorial seems to suggest that it reinstalls windows without erasing any of your data. Will the Toshiba Recovery app do the same thing, or will I lose all of my data?

I understand I'm sorta asking about Toshiba stuff now instead of Windows 7 stuff, but since you guys are so helpful and responsive I'd greatly appreciate any help you could give me...

Using the repair install option will not affect any of your installed programs...Using the Toshiba restore option will restore your machine to its factory defaults and you will need to reinstall all of your programs....

As Bill suggests, you need to borrow or locate a Win7 install DVD or ISO file to install using the stickered Product Key.

You can unlock all versions in the ISO using this: Ei.cfg Removal Utility Lets You Use Any Product Key With Your Windows 7 Disc

The installer is mostly driver-complete, with newer drivers arriving quickly via optional Windows Updates. Find any missing drivers on SUpport Downloads webpage for your model computer.
