System reserved parition blocking Windows 7 Reinstall

    Hello,

I installed Windows 7 RTM 7600 on a new hard disk (previously not partitionned), so I have had the 'system reserved' partition created at Windows 7 initial installation time.

I have several of problems with Windows 7, so I woule like to reinstall it, but by keeping programs and files.... the problem is that the Install file setup.exe looks into 'system reserved' partition rather than checking the C:/ hard drive, and as such does not want to proceed with the reinstall because of a lack of disk space (100 Mo only on 'system reserved' partition)...

How could I do so making the install looking at C:/ rather than at that partition ?
And during the reinstall could I do so that this partition is not created anymore ?

Thanks in adavance for your help and support, it's more than boring....

If you want to keep your programs and files intact then you need to do a Repair Install, not a regular install. Heres a tutorial.

At the HD option screen Click C: drive.

It's exactly what I did, but it stops after I have chosen the Go online to get the latest updates for installation option, with a Compatibility report telling me that I have not enough disk space to install windows.... it's why I really suspect the install/repair process to only look at 'system reserved' partition rather than at C: drive.

The only thing that I do not do, compared to this (nice) tutorial, is that I have not disabled real time antivirus and security programs (EESET security suite) ... could it be the cause of the rejection ?

Well, 600 Gb hard drive with 200 Gb free. Does it need 400 Gb free to save 400 gb, there's no compression ?

What you can try is delete old restore points and the hibernation file. Also, are your data files sitting on the same partition as your OS? In that case, back them to external media, then delete them from hdd.

Also, try turning off the security programs, maybe even disable UAC.

Then try doing a repair install.

    2) Where can I find hibernation file ?
