so im stuck dude, i have a perfectly fine dvd , can boot install the lot no probs there.

my connections are all good no hardware defects or damage, but the only thing i cant wrap my head around , Is why my windows 7 dvd will boot and install in IDE mode off of one HDD but not RAID even though ive created a RAID HDD , and set it to RAID in the bios.

This could be all kinds of problems, BIOS issue; maybe you need to flash it. Or for some reason the DVD and BluRay are incompatible?? I don't know for sure.

Maybe the 8.xx RAID on the motherboard is too old. They, Intel are up to 9.6.xx.

    Requirements:
    • USB Flash Drive (4GB+)
    • Microsoft Operating System DVD (Vista / Windows 7)
    • A computer with Vista / Windows 7 installed.

    Step 1: Format the Drive
WARNGING!: This will erase everything on your USB drive.

    1. Insert the USB Drive
    2. Open a Command Prompt as Administrator
(Right click on Start > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt and select “Run as administrator”)
    3. Find the drive number of your USB Drive by typing the following.

    diskpart
    list dis

The number of your USB Drive will in the list. You will need this for the next step.
Note: I will assume that your USB Drive is disk 1.

    4. Format the USB Drive by typing. Replace the number “1” with the number of your USB Drive.

    sel dis 1
    clean
    cre par pri
    sel par 1
    act
    for fs=NTFS quick
    or
for fs=FAT32 quick (if you wish to use FAT32)
    ass
    exit

Note: Do not close the Command Prompt you will need it for more steps.

Step 2: Make the Drive Bootable

Use the bootsect utility from the Vista or Windows 7 DVD to make the USB drive bootable. In the same Command Prompt Window you were using above.

    1. Insert your Windows Vista / 7 DVD into your drive.
    2. Change directory to the DVD’s boot directory where bootsect is stored.

I will assume your DVD drive is E:

    e:
    cd e:\boot

    3. Use bootsect to set the USB Drive as a bootable NTFS drive. I will assume your USB drive has been labeled P:
    bootsect /nt60 P:
    xcopy e:\*.* /s /e /f p:\

Note: if you are not comfortable using xcopy you may skip xcopy and use Windows Explorer for Step 3.
    4. Close the Command Prompt Window.

Step 3: Copy the entire contents of the Vista or Windows DVD to the USB drive.
Set your Computers BIOS to Boot USB devices: Boot this USB Drive to install Windows or start a system recovery.

Dude it is super late here, I have to go to bed. I have very early meetings in the morning and some are extremely important financial stuff so I need to have my thinking cap on. Lots of money I can't make a mistake.

At this point you have 2 choices.

    1) Make the Windows 7 USB drive and try the windows install that way.
    2) Put the BIOS in IDE mode and install without RAID, and pick this up some other day.

Last ditch you can go to the ASUS web site and download the BIOS updates; however without a floppy or a working machine you may NOT be able to flash the machine. Unless they have a way to make a bootable USB device for flashing.

Sorry I cannot keep going tonight. I will check in tomorrow and see where we’re at. -WS

Yes that is correct. Make sure you have the BIOS set to boot USB.

Just finished reading through the thread and one thing I didn't see mentioned or asked, which of the SATA ports is the DVD drive connected too? Reason for askling is that according to the specs for that motherboard it has 3 SATA controllers on it,

    ASUSTeK Computer Inc.

    Southbridge
    5 xSATA 3 Gb/s ports
Intel® Matrix Storage Technology Support RAID 0,1,5,10

    JMicron® JMB361 SATA & PATA controller:
    1 x Ultra DMA 133 / 100 / 66 for up to 2 PATA devices
    1 x External SATA 3Gb/s port (SATA On-the-Go)
Silicon Image Sil5723 (Drive Xpert technology):
    2 x SATA 3Gb/s ports
and it sounds like you have everything connected to the Intel ports (the 5 red ones),

    Atapi cd install :???????????-p5qproturbo.jpg

If that is the case, leave the hard drives connected there and the RAID enabled and move DVD drive to the Silicon Image controller (orange and white), and set that controller only to IDE mode. That should get the DVD drive detected by thw Windows disk and allow you to start installing. Then if still needed you already have the RAID driver on the USB key, just have it plugged in and when asked for them it is just a matter of browsing to the folder on the USB key.

It has been a long time since I configured RAID on an Aus board, but this is the way I think it goes:

Set the SATA controller to RAID.

In the Intel RAID sub-BIOS that comes up once you've done that, create a RAID 0 array from your two disks. (They'll then be a logical single device.)

With the Win7 DVD in the drive, boot the system. Use the F8 key to enter a screen that allows you to set the boot order. You'll need to boot from the DVD.

(Alternately, buy a 4GB flash drive, and prep it as a bootable drive with the Win 7 installer on it:

Use a USB Key to Install Windows 7—Even on a Netbook

It'll be faster than installing from the DVD.)

The bit I'm not sure about: Win7 may include RAID drivers compatible with an Intel motherboard RAID controller. (Win7 includes AHCI drivers, so why not RAID?) I believe that you won't need to do the F6 trick at all.

Once you have Win7 installed, you'll probably want to install the full Intel Rapid Storage suite. That'll give you Intel drivers, and utilities to manage the RAID.

    Good luck.
