Windows 7 and XP install --> only XP boots I tried to install windows 7 64bit with my XP to create a dual boot situation. However, my system will just go straight to XP without giving me an OS option. If I boot from the 7 DVD, windows 7 will boot, but that is it.
Actually after I went to XP and tried to boot from the DVD, it first went back to the 7 installation, but I chose the repair option, which put me into windows 7. Once I removed the boot from DVD option in the Bios, it went back to XP.
Any ideas? | My System Specs |

I am not sure why it matters, but I am game for anything. I do have 2 hard drives, but both my XP and Win 7 are on the same drive on different partitions. The 2nd drive is old and I really don't use it for anything. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom Made evga 730a OS Windows 7 Ultimate Build 7100 CPU Phenom II 920 Motherboard evga 730a Memory 2 Gig ddr2 800 mhz Graphics Card Built In nvidia 8200 Sound Card Built In to Motherboard Monitor(s) Displays Acer x223w 22" LCD Screen Resolution 1680 x 1050 Keyboard Logitech Wireless LX 710 Mouse Logitech Laser LX710 PSU BFG Tech 450 W Case Unknown Cooling Standard Fans Hard Drives WD 350GB Internet Speed DSL 7MB |

Do you have any of these devices plugged into the system?
1. A USB HDD / ODD
2. A USB Thumb Drive
3. A USB Card Reader with media in it
4. A USB Printer with a Card Reader in it
If so, disconnect them all and see if it'll boot into Win 7 | My System Specs | | |

No USB drives. I have no USB drives attached. The only USB devices I have attached are my Printer (w/o memory card slots, etc.), my mouse and keyboard combo and an empty usb cable that I use for my mp3 player (which isn't currently attached).
Thanks, though. It only sort of works I did this following the Installation FAQs and now I get a dual boot screen "ONLY" if I boot from the DVD. If I boot from the DVD, I get both operating systems as an option. Once I go into the bios and change it back to booting from the hard drive, it just loads XP.

I don't think you can have XP on the same hard drive with Widows7 something to do with the file systems are different.i think XP is NTFS and Windows 7 is same as Vista.
I have Windows7 Beta and tried to install XP on another partition and it would not let me do it with Windows 7 on same drive. | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit version CPU Intel core 2 Duo CPU e7500 @2.93 GHZ Motherboard ASUS Formula Rampage Memory 4 gb 1066 MHZ Graphics Card EVGA Ge Force GT430 Sound Card Creative SB XFI Xtreme Audio Monitor(s) Displays Acer 22" HD Monitor and Samsung 62" HD TV Keyboard PS2 Mouse creative Fatality PSU Antec 650 eathwatts Case Haf Cooling 5-Fans Hard Drives 1.5 TB WD Green HD

Any ideas? Two options. Install from the ISO image u dl'd and burned (hopefully at 4x or below) and when finished, use an application to give you your proper boot options during the boot process. Or, just follow these instructions, they're pretty on point.
