I have installed ubuntu onto the same HDD as windows, and I no longer want it. I have tried to just format the partition that it is on but when I do that I cannot load windows, as it looks for the 'grub'. I think what it is is that Ubuntu is the primary OS, I can't even alter the boot first options.
Is there a way I can remove this Os without having to do a complete re-install of windows?
just delete the partition in which u have installed the ubuntu.... i hope u know how....

rt click on my computer icon and select manage and then go to the disk management page. from here u can del the ubuntu partion and then afterwards u just insert ur win 7 dvd n boot n format the partitions u want to n do a clean install of win 7..

The procedure is to wipe the partition containing GRUB as it may interfere with Win7 if any of it's code remains with a simple formatting. Use free Partition Wizard bootable CD to Wipe Ubuntu partition with zeros then Modify>Set to Active the Win7 partition. You can also use PW to resize Win7 into the deleted space or repartition any way you like.
Win7 will not now start if GRUB was used to manage boot. So you need to boot your Win7 DVD Repair console or Repair CD, click through to Recovery Tools list to run Startup Repair up to 3 separate times with reboots to write the MBR to Win7, which will work if it is marked Active.
