    Hard drive not found

The system currently boots fine from the hard drive into Win XP. When I boot from the Win 7 install DVD it fails to find the hard drive, and as far as I can tell there are no special drivers required. I'm using an IDE drive--not SATA--with a Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3L motherboard.

I also tried to boot from the Win XP install CD, and it also fails to find the hard drives.

    Any suggestions?

Will WIn7 installer run from XP? What happens?

Any error messages on any of these? Google exact wording.

I think I found the solution. This is actually my son's (in college) system, and I discovered that he added another disk controller so he could run two IDE drives. The missing driver is for that controller.

Why would he need a 2nd IDE controller? You can connect two IDE drives to the existing onboard IDE connector using a IDE cable with two connectors on it (three counting the end that plugs into the system board).

Think two hard drives, two CD/DVD drives, and maybe a floppy...
