when i put in windows 7 disc the drive does not recoknise it

You have to change your boot order in BIOS

Read your owner's manual - the procedures for selecting a different drive will be in there.

If your boot order is correct, but DVD does not boot, then the DVD is suspect or the drive. It could be defective. Take another known good CD and see if it works properly in the drive.
