Monitor Turns Off during Windows 7 Installation

Hi,

I've just purchased a copy of windows 7 pro and I'm attempting to install it.

After some hick ups at being stuck at the blue wallpaper, I was finally able to fix the issue and click through the options to start the install.

As the install starts and it gets to the "expanding files" progress bar, after a 2-3 min, my monitor goes into sleep mode or power-save mode - the screen goes goes to black and my monitor switches from DVI to VGA several times looking for a signal presumably and then just goes into standby like when I am inactive in windows xp for a few min.

My computer is still running, however I am unsure whether the installation is still in progress - the dvd drive is still spinning, and the activity LED is still flashing.

After searching google for the past 2 hrs, I can see that people are having similar problems however I do not see a fix for it.

Some people say to connect the monitor via VGA, however I do not have a VGA port on my Gigabyte P35 DS3R Motherboard.

My Video card is a Nvidia 8800 GTS 512mb, with dual DVI ports. I only have 1 monitor connected for the install.

How do I fix this? Is there a fix? Did I just purchase Windows 7 without any hope of installation?

Any advice at all would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks!
-AL

Have you tried turning off the monitor, waiting a few seconds and then turning it back on??

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. I didn't try that earlier but I just did, and I it doesn't bring it back from standby/power save mode. It seems to happen like clock work after a certain amount of time. For instance, sometimes I can get to the "expanding files" progress section before it goes. Other times, if I'm fidgeting with some of the partition settings it will turn off then. It's honestly 2-3 min - if that.

Further, I have checked my monitor's OSC settings and there are no settings within the monitor to turn off this setting.

Hi, that's for the reply Lomai, Unfortunately you linked to my thread.

Hi

Fixed the link - sorry about that
One way to fix the issue is to use a DVI-VGA adapter and have the video cable connected to the VGA-port on your monitor.

Hope this helps

Hi Lomai, thanks for the tip.

I'm gonna go buy a VGA/DVI solution tonight, however, I have one question regarding this,

Would a DVI to VGA adapter suffice, or should I be getting a DVI/VGA cable?

Thanks again!

I've never seen an actual cable. You also should have gotten at least one of the adapters with your video card.

Hi Guys,

I've just tried a DVI to VGA cable, and I am still having the same issue.

I've also tried disconnecting everything except the video card and 1 stick of ram, and 1 hard drive.

I'm thinking it might be an issue with my mobo but it was working fine up until this installation and was running xp just fine.

Hi Al

Just a check - when connecting via the VGA cable, did you change the signal source for on your monitor?
