Bootmrg is missing! Help plz

Ok this is a long story and sounds pretty dumb but this is what happened.

On my computer windows 7 was the only Os installed. I know i should be dual booting but my laptop was acting up and i tried over 4 days to get a Os installed so when i finally got windows 7 working i didn't even want to mess it up by doing anything else.

Ok on my laptop i had 2 partitions. One was a 80gb(Drive c: this is the one with Windows) and one was a 206 gb one.(Drive D)

For some reason anytime i tried to copy something from drive D to drive C my computer will freeze for about 4-7 mins until i have a chance to cancel it. Also anytime i try to burn a iso thats on drive d i get cylcic errors or whatever they called.

So i thought that there was something wrong with partition D.(Even though the program said there were no errors on the drive)

I use partition magic and tried to merge the 2 partitions to 1. I copied everything from drive d. Then deleted it and then put all the extra space to drive C. Everything seemed to be working and then partition magic said "press to restart computer"

As soon as i do that i get the "Bootmgr is missing" screen. So what happened? Im assuming there was something on drive D that windows needed?(Which makes no sene though seeing as how drive c is where windows is installed)

Anyway can someone plz help me? I have a report due in 2 days and i really need my laptop working again.

Cyclic errors are never good. When you get back into Windows, you should check the event viewer logs to see if there are disk reports.

To get back into Windows, do a startup repair.

Startup Repair

Just a quick question: did you use Norton Ghost?

Put in your win 7 install cd. I think there is an option to repair the MBR there.

"Boot from the windows XP CD, press the "R" key in the setup in order to start the restoration console. Select your windows XP installation from the list, and enter the administrator password.
Enter the command: "FIXMBR" (without the quotes) at the input prompt and confirm the next question with a "Y" (without the quotes). Use exit to restore the computer."

The above is from XP, but should also work for Win 7

In addition to the above posts:

Partition Magic is not compatible with the new NT6 (Vista /Win 7 ) partitioning rules.

Do not use it.

You might be able to resolve the problem like this:

Use another bootable partition manager to simply shrink the partition a little - a couple of gb should do.

(There is one you can download attached to this tutorial Dual Boot using free partitioning software - Vista Forums - you will find it easier to use a ps2 mouse, alternatively, try GParted).

Exit the partition Manager - remove the cd.

Boot the 7 dvd - start the installation process - go to Drive Options (advanced) - extend the partition to it's full size.

Abort the installation.

From the 7 dvd , run startup repair.

FIXMBR will probably not work from the Windows 7 install DVD.

Something similar happened to me last night, though it was on a clean install. Windows 7 installed cleanly, added a few programs, took it out of PC threw it in external for another PC, then XP said hard drive ready need to reboot, rebooted and moved some backed up files, turned off external moved HD back to original PC booted and NADA, ran the repair thru CD, repaired, booted and NADA, tried repair again, NADA, and again NADA, gave up, clean install again. whew. Not sure why the mbr wouldn't fix even tho it said it was fixed.

Ok i tried startup repair from the windows 7 disk. It said it found a problem and i clicked restart to fix it. Computer restarted i get the "Starting windows screen" so it no longer says bootmrg is missing but 3 seconds later i get a bsod and it goes by too quickly for me to read what it says. It then restarts and asks me to do start up repair again. This time it takes alot longer at the "attempting repairs" part then it did when the problem was the bootmgr. It's been here for about 15 mins. Any help?

Here is another problem though. After the 2nd time at startup repair the one where it took like 20 mins it finally said it couldn't fix the problem so i clicked restart. Now i try to boot from the cd again and it won't let me. After i click boot from dvd i get to the screen where it says "click any button to boot" I do but i just get a black screen with a flashing whit eline on the upper right corner. Now im getting scared. I was just going to do a clean install but i now i can't even boot from the disc. Any help plz? Like i said i need my laptop for school.
