    Windows 7 64 Slow Performance

    Hey all,

    I have a machine,

    2x 2.26GHz Xeon E5520
Intel Server Board Shady Cove S5520SC
    6x
    Transcend 2Gb DDR3 1066 ECC DIMM
Western Digital 300Gb VelociRaptor HiSpec HDD
    Gigabyte GTS250 1Gb

    These are the specs...

    Now the problem:

Sometimes the mouse freezes for a second, cpu utilization jump from 0% to 35% on idle, but not slowly, keeps going from 0 to 35 then 0 then 35, keeps going on like that.

I just feel that the machine can do so much more, even disabled HT,still the same.

    Any ideas ?

    Thx very much

Check in Task Manager > Processes or with Process Explorer which process produces the spikes.

    Hi,

Thx for the quick reply. I did run that and here are 2 screenshots.

Its DPC's, whatever it is. Look at the screen with all the CPU's. That was on idle.

    Thx

The Task Manager clip is pretty useless. It only shows that there are spikes. You may want to show the "Processes" tab results - when the spikes occur and with the CPU column prioritized.
The Process Explorer clip was taken at the wrong time. No spike there. The DPC's are deferred interrupts. But the magnitude of those are pretty normal. You could check your Latency with this tool. If you have a lot of red bars, then you have some driver problem. If that is the case, we'll investigate that later.
I also suggest you run the Process Explorer in a small window (to have it always ready) and try to catch the spikes.

    Hi,

Ok, I ran the tool and a new task manager screenshot. Yes, it seems there are some drivers causing trouble.

Thx for you assistance, I really appreciate it.

Have a look in Device Manager whether any device has a yellow flag - meaning that there is something wrong with the driver. If not, you will have to update drivers and try to find the right one that's causing the problem.

    I had this problem.
Apparently it was a driver, but I found the answer by searching for this.
    Hope you find the answer!

Hi Guys, Quick update, downloaded the newest drivers I could find on the net, problem still persists, I think of reloading the OS again, maybe something went wrong during the installation.... so I hope. Thx
