    No windows media center!!!

I am quite frustrated. Just two months ago I updated my Vista Ultimate installation to Windows 7 Ultimate Edition. Periodically I would look to find Windows Media Center but would give up after two or three seconds and move on. Today, I decided to solve this issue, however it has proven to be very hard. Nowhere on my computer is Windows Media Center. Not one trace of the program. Here's what I have done to try and find the program/install it:

    • I have attempted to contact Microsoft directly...could not get through.

    • I have tried to go into the control panel and enable windows features...Windows Media Center is enabled...yet no sign of it anywhere else.

    • I have tried searching for ehshell.exe...not on my computer.

    • I have also tried installing the windows media pack for the "N" versions of Windows...the installation said it wasn't for my version of Windows.

How can I get Windows Media Center???!!!??? Please, someone much smarter than me help!!

Thanks...but I just did that and nothing happened. I then tried clicking another option such as iTunes and then I got a dialog box and hourglass. It appears that I do not have Windows Media Center on my computer.

    Hi there
Windows Media center is included in all versions of Windows 7 --even W7 Starter edition so I'd be very suspicious of where you sourced your copy of W7 Ultimate.

If you think your copy is genuine just run the Update again -- you can run an upgrade on an existing W7 installation so long as the version is the same or Higher -- so no prob upgrading Ultimate to Ultimate.

    Cheers

Maybe it's there and you're just looking in all the wrong places
    Search for the file ehshell.exe
    usually in C:\Windows\ehome\
not sure if that's different in 64 Bit Version.

Thanks for the replies. So far...nothing. Ill run the update again tomorrow. I'm quite sure that my copy is genuine. I passed windows genuine advantage to even be able to download the N media package. I bought the update at the USF bookstore at a student discount rate...a great deal. So I know its legit. Is there anyway to get Media Center as a separate download??

Are you using Windows 7 Ultimate N edition???? Because you did say you tried installing the Windows media pack for the "N" version of Windows but failed.
The "N" version of Windows does not come with a media functionality by default because the European Union thought that it was unfair for Microsoft to provide its own media function for Windows which is unfair for the competition of other software so MS made the "N" editions that does not include Windows Media Player and Windows Media Center.

    Check these links:

media center for windows 7 ultimate N

windows media center is missing in windows 7 ultimate n

Thanks for the links but my version is not N. Its just the student partner Ultimate Edition I bought at my Universities bookstore. I also live in America...N was only for Europe. Any other help??

If you can't extract the install file from said N download (via 7zip or Uniextract) You're best bet seems to be either jumbo's suggestion or a clean install since the update didn't cut it.

What do you mean extract the file? You mean the .msu file? Yes, I can extract that file. What do I do from there?
